POST COP26 YOUTH CONFERENCE IN NIGERIA'S NORTH-EAST ZONE: DONE AND DUSTED.
The UN Information Center Nigeria, in collaboration with the GECCI, hosted the conference at El-Kanami Hall Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, Borno State Nigeria, on February 26, 2022.
Prof. Abba Gambo, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Yobe state University, delivered a Keynote speech on his topic ” What Are the Effects of Climate Change on Agriculture in the North East Zone of Nigeria?.
We also had an exciting panel session to dissecting and discussing issues raised in respect of North- East zone’s preparedness to mitigate and adapt to the impact of extreme climate variability confronting it, and these include; the water level depletion of the Lake Chad, rapid aridification of the zone, the extreme heat wave and prevalence of flash flooding cases, deforestation and over exploitation of forest resources for energy and construction, poor agricultural yield, rising cases of pastoralist-farmers conflicts, increasing spate of GHG emission from manufacturing activities , and automobile vehicles, amongst others, were brought to the front burner.
It was really interesting having Engr. Dr. Muhammed Ali Musa, – Senior Lecturer from the Department of Civil and Water Resources Engineering University of Maiduguri. justice to the topic : Combating climate change through Promoting waste management best practices in Bornostate and Nigeria at large. Also, Sunday Dauda Balami – Coordinator African Climate Change Research Center (ACCREC) do justice to the topic “Climate change causes, effects and the youth opportunities in Nigeria, and Dr(s). Muhammad Dauda, Dr. Alhaji Muktar, Engr. Abubakar Modibo Ahmed, Amb. Ahmed Arabi Abdulfathi, steer the panel session.
At the conference, we had in attendance a special guest of honor, Dr. Idris M. Idris, Director Research at the NDIC, the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Borno State was represented by the Secretary and young advocates, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, academia, CSOs, NGOs, and other change-makers attending the event from the Borno and Yobe.
We would like to sincerely thank the organizer of the Conference, and in Particular, the Borno State President Muhammad Abubakar Abatcha for organizing this Conference So Perfectly.

Nigeria Youth Post COP26 Conference at Damaturu, Yobe State Nigeria.
The Global Environmental and Climate Conservation Initiative (GECCI), in partnership with the United Nations Information Centre – UNIC, Nigeria organized the Nigeria Youth Post COP26 Conference, whose theme is: “The Outcome of COP26 and Where Do We Go from Here?” at the NANM Secretariat Hall in Damaturu, Yobe State on December 18th, 2021
This will enable us to better understand the different environmental issues affecting different regions of Nigeria and encourage inclusiveness.

The UN Information Center Nigeria, in collaboration with the GECCI, hosted the conference at the NEW MPH in Gombe State University, Nigeria. On February 8, 2022.
Prof. Robinson I. Ejilah, Department of Mechanical Engineering at ATBU Bauchi, delivered a keynote speech on his topic, “Beyond COP26 What have we achieved and what human Imfact on the environment?” and Dr. Saed Idris, Senior Lecturer at Federal University Kashere Bauchi, delivered a keynote speech on his topic, “Climate Change causes, effects and the youth opportunities in Nigeria” and other programs such as panelist discussions with Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Abdullahi, Dr. Abdullahi Bappa Garkuwa, Dr. Ahmed Abdullahi, Dr. Ahmed Chinede, Zainab Lawan Hassan and question-and-answer sessions. Theme: COP26 Outcome: Where Do We Go From Here?
At the conference, they were joined by Our Father and special guest of honor, Alh. Muhammad Hamza (Tafidan Nafada), Federal Commissioner, Federal Character Commission, representing Gombe State; the P.S Ministry of Environment, Gombe State was represented by the Gombe State Desk Officer for Climate Change, Hauwa Muhammad, DG BASEPA, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, GM Bauchi State Toursim Board, Malam Nasiru Muhammad, and young advocates, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, academia, CSOs, NGOs, and other change-makers, including leading experts who attended COP26 in person and other dignitaries from relevant sectors across the North East Zone.
We would also like to sincerely thank the organizers of the conference, and in particular, GECCI North East Director Amb. Dayyabu Musa, the project-led team, Amb. Umar S. Hamza and their team, for organizing this conference SO PERFECTLY.

The UN Information Center Nigeria, in collaboration with the GECCI, hosted the Conference at College of Agriculture Cafeteria, Lafia, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, on March 12, 2022.
Nasirudeen M. Baba, PhD. – Dean Faculty of Science, Federal University Lafia, delivered a Keynote speech on his topic ” Beyond COP26, What have we achieved and What Human Impact on the Environment.
It was really interesting having Dr. Alhassan Usman, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University Lafia. Justice to the topic: Climate Change Causes, effects and the Youth Opportunities in Nigeria, and Sakinat Bello, Ablaku Barnabas Enga, Kennedy C. Ahanotu, Hon. Shuaibu Sani, steer the panel session.
At the conference, we had in attendance a special guest of honor, Governor Engr. A. A Sule able represented by the Honorable Commissioner of Environment, Commissioner of Youth and Sport Development, the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Nasarawa State was represented by the Director Climate Change, and young advocates, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, academia, CSOs, NGOs, and other change-makers attending the event from North Central.

Prof. Aliyu Salisu Barau, Director of West African Hub Urban Climate Change research Network, delivered a keynote speech and programs such as panelist discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Theme: COP26 Outcome: Where Do We Go From Here?
The Jigawa State Ministry of Environment delegates and government officials, as well as young advocates, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, academia, CSOs, NGOs, and other change-makers, attended the conference. including leading experts who attended COP26 in person.
OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULT:
– To gain a better understanding of the COP26 outcome and what it means for Nigeria’s climate policy and economic development.
– A roadmap for the domestication of the outcome of COP26¬
– Empowering youth to explore innovative ideas to tackle development challenges.
– Creating an Opportunity for Joint Reflection of Key Stakeholders and Experts on the Outcome of COP26 and the Implications for Nigeria.
– Providing youth with the tools to build and engage in impactful projects.
– Identifying interest in and opportunities for capacity development, partnerships, and further action.
